Hanukah

Jesus celebrated Hanukah. Hanukah means "rededication".

In Judea, there was a Syrian king, Antiochus who hated the Jews and ordered the Jewish people to reject their God. Some did but many refused. Judah was one who refused. Judah & his 4 brothers formed an army and chose the name Maccabees, which means hammer. After fighting the Syrians for 3 years they reclaimed the temple. They cleaned the temple and then wanted to light a candle that would burn forever and never go out. It’s a custom today to have an eternal light in the temple. Catholics also have an eternal light in the church. After cleaning out the temple and rededicating it, they found only enough oil for 1 day. Lit the oil and by some miracle, stayed lit for 8 days. This is how the Jewish tradition of the Festival of Lights began. This is also where the Christians started the tradition of the Advent wreath.
