Why do we abstain from eating meat on Fridays during Lent?
1. Jesus was crucified for us by sacrificing his "flesh" to forgive our sins. We sacrifice eating the "flesh" of mammals to remind us of his forgiveness.
2. Meat was considered a luxury that only the rich were able to afford so eating fish was a sacrifice that brought the rich closer to the common people.
3. Animals that are warm-blooded mammals (often lambs) were used as a sacrifice to God. Jesus, who is the Lamb of God, was sacrificed for our sins.
4. Fish are cold-blooded animals. Instead of using fish to sacrifice to God, Jesus multiplied the fish to feed many people.
